Polyethylene glycol maleate is a kind of polyethylene glycol derivative crosslinked by mercaptan reaction. When the pH of maleimide group is 6.5 ~ 7.5, the sulfhydryl group reacts at room temperature to form a stable sulfide bond, while the carboxylic acid group can react with amine active molecules at the other end. Cooh-peg-mal is a kind of heterobifunctional modifier, which can be used in the research of targeted drugs and widely used in the cross-linking of protein carriers and ligands.

Maleimide can connect peg to protein or polypeptide by coupling with sulfhydryl group, form ester bond by esterification of carboxyl group and hydroxyl group, and form carboxyl group characteristics of amide by affinity substitution reaction with amino group, so as to effectively link peg to required materials or small drug and polypeptide, so as to achieve the purpose of reaction.
