Maleimide peg can modify sulfhydryl groups. Peg blocks have hydrophilicity, good biocompatibility, non toxicity, antigenicity and immunogenicity, and are easily soluble in water and many organic reagents. Plga-res has good biocompatibility with water, which can prolong the biodegradation time of plga-res. Mal group can be used in the coupling synthesis of some specific small molecular compounds. This kind of polymers are generally used in the preparation of polymer nanoparticles and microspheres.

Plga-peg-mal can be used as carrier materials for different kinds of drugs, improve the water solubility, entrapment efficiency and drug loading capacity of drugs, and can be made into drug loaded microspheres, microcapsules, vesicles and micelles to realize the sustained-release and controlled-release of drugs. It can also be used as tissue engineering scaffold materials with good hydrophilicity. Maleimide peg can be used to modify sulfhydryl groups and form stable sulfhydryl ether bonds with sulfhydryl groups under the condition of pH 6.5-7.5.
